Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)

What is the EYLF?

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is a guiding document in Australia that outlines the principles, practices, and outcomes essential for children's learning and development from birth to age 5. It provides early childhood educators with a foundation for creating educational programs that promote a child's overall growth and help prepare them for lifelong learning.

Key Elements of the EYLF

  • Children have a strong sense of identity

  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world

  • Children have a strong sense of well-being

  • Children are confident and involved learners

  • Children are effective communicators

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is built around three key concepts: Belonging, Being and Becoming.

    Belonging

Belonging refers to the understanding that children need to feel a strong sense of connection to their families, communities, and environments. This sense of belonging is foundational for their emotional well-being and development. When children feel they belong, they are more likely to be confident and engaged learners.

    Being

Being refers to children’s present experiences, allowing them to enjoy and engage fully in their current moment, experiences, and activities. It emphasises that children are not just future learners, but active participants in the here and now, building and exploring their world as they go.

    Becoming

Becoming reflects the idea that children are always in a process of development, growing and learning in various ways. It emphasises the child’s potential and the importance of providing opportunities to shape their futures.

  • These three concepts help create a comprehensive framework for early childhood education that fosters well-being, encourages learning, and supports the development of a child’s identity, skills, and potential.

Kindergarten

We support children's continuous learning and help lay the groundwork for a smooth transition to school through our Approved Kindergarten Program.

This program aligns with government standards to ensure children have access to high-quality early childhood education.

An Approved Kindergarten Program includes:

- Participation for children in the year before they begin Prep (children who turn 4 years old by June 30 of that year)

- Delivery of FREE 15 hours per week over 40 weeks

- Instruction by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher
